Trafficmaster Plc Takes Over National Journey Time Data Supply for Department for Transport in £3 Million Contract

07/17/2007

Trafficmaster Plc, the leading supplier of intelligent driving services, will take over the supply of journey time data to UK Department for Transport, in a new contract, effective from 3 July 2007 and worth £3 million over 3½ years. A six month transition from the existing supplier will be complete by end 2007.

Trafficmaster will supply a combination of real road speed data, collected from its 50,000 intelligent vehicle probes and journey time and traffic flow data collected through its fixed sensor network, positioned across major roads in the UK.

The data will assist the Department for Transport and other government agencies in monitoring performance against their Public Service Agreement targets, in identifying congestion hotspots and in measuring the impact of schemes to improve traffic flow on the
strategic road network.

The contract was awarded after a comprehensive tender process.

Trafficmaster Chief Executive, Tony Eales, commented: “This significant contract for Trafficmaster is reflection of the quality of our information on traffic flow. We look forward to assisting the authorities with their transport planning and congestion reduction initiatives and we will continue to develop our data services to improve understanding of Britain’s congestion picture.

“This also demonstrates the power and potential of our real road speed data, which has been delivering improved navigation routes for our Smartnav customers for over 12 months.”
